A Few Things Lately...

First stroller walk! Can you guess who was the most excited about this outing? She is so fun and funny! And fits the big sis role pretty well. She loves to rub the baby's face with hers. I peeked in the bedroom one time and she was "sharing" her toy ponies and bears with her baby sister. Sweet!

7 Lies About Homeschoolers

The video, below, is not only funny, but pretty accurate!
Although, I have to say, physics at the amusement park sounds like a great idea...  (-:

Do You See the Beauty in the "Ordinary"?

What is it we do as "homeschoolers"?

We are teaching our children how to live a "real life". How do we do this? By living our real lives, everyday...and inviting our children along!

Have you seen Hans Christian Andersen? It's this old Danny Kaye movie. There's a scene where Danny Kaye, as Hans, tries to smile and greet students inside the schoolroom as he passes by the open door. The cranky school master returns this greeting by glaring and slamming the door in his face. Hans walks on, with his young friend at his side, unperturbed, and teaches us all a lesson as he looks at an inchworm creeping along a flower on the ground near the school: Learning academics is important, but not important enough to miss participating in the beauty of life happening all around us.

LEGO creation

Our oldest son wanted to show off his latest LEGO ship, along with the "guys" he created. He especially likes the treads on the wheels underneath. I love seeing his eye for design and his passion for making the things he envisions. Who knows? Perhaps he is a LEGO designer-in-the-making!

Are All Mormons Behind Mitt Romney?

The presidential campaigns are gearing up for quite a contest, especially between President Obama and Governor Mitt Romney. Of course, it's been well established by the American media that Mitt Romney is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, otherwise known commonly as "Mormons".

Many people assume that Mormons will be encouraged to vote for Mitt based on religious affiliation alone, maybe even by their church leaders. It may surprise some people to learn this is actually not true. While some church members may choose to vote for Mitt for President, no church members are under any obligation to do so, nor are there sanctions from the church against members for how they choose to vote (or not, as the case may be).

This video, below, from, explains how LDS church members are encouraged to participate in the political process.

Carried Babies are Happy Babies!

Hello, Baby!

She's snug as a bug  :-)

She likes to be snuggled in the carrier when she is awake...which doesn't last long once she gets popped inside the sling.

She falls asleep within minutes! {Love it!!}

Music from the Heart of a Mother

Watching this video (below) touched my heart.

Mormon songwriter/musician, Calee Reed, wrote the song in the video as a tribute to her mother who passed away last year from cancer. I'm sure her mother would be so happy to see how her daughter has used the gift of music to bless others and remember her.

What a testimony to the powerful influence of a mother, that even the simple act of living a good life and sharing a small gift, even just a few songs lovingly sung in childhood, can have that kind of lasting impression on a soul. Truly, Calee is a reflection of her own mother's goodness!

I can't watch this video and hear this song without thinking of my own Mom, who sang to me often, played the piano in our home while I was growing up, and played hymns on Sundays to invite a spirit of peace into our home. She really did "put the music in me", too. She taught me about God and how I am His child. I'll always be grateful to my Mom for loving me and taking care of me and giving me the best of herself. I feel so fortunate that she is still here on this earth for me to hug and spend time with!

For the Mothers who have gone before us, for the Mothers who surround us still, and for the Mothers we are becoming,

I wish us all: A Happy Mother's Day :-)

Our Sweet Baby Has Arrived!

We are pleased to announce our family has grown by one more daughter!!

Our baby girl was born Sunday evening at 6:09 p.m. She weighed 7 pounds 6 ounces and measured 20 3/4" in length. The labor and birth went well and she and Mama are doing just fine.

Unfortunately, the baby is not the only "new" visitor around here. A stomach flu bug is here now as, we definitely recommend anyone wishing to visit to wait until this illness passes. Just a little FYI   :-)

The older siblings attended the birth and it was a very positive experience for everyone. The oldest boys were so excited to hold her; they'd been waiting as long as me and were just as happy when the moment came for them to snuggle their sister!
