Nature Moment: Park

We welcomed in a beautiful Fall day this past week by picnicking at a park close by our home. Dad had some work to do from home that we needed to be out of the house for, so a picnic it was to be for me and the children. Luckily, the weather cooperated and it was lovely and sunny, with just a bit of a breeze. It was wonderful to be out of the house and hear birds chirping and feel sun on our faces.

Chore Chart part 3

 (Part 1 and Part 2)
The last element of the chore chart system is Pay Day, which happens for the children every Friday. For each day that each child completes his chart and is quick to help without complaining, he earns a dime. This is a wonderful, real-life motivator and cuts down naturally on complaining as this is a real benefit the child gets excited about. I feel children thrive when they can see and track their own progress. They know that they earned those dimes with their own behavior.

Chore Chart part 2

(Part 1)

In the Beginning...

For the first 2 weeks I implemented the chart, when I woke up in the morning--and my husband has done this a time or two as well so he is familiar with the routine--I accompanied each child as they woke up in turn and asked them to 'check their chart'. I then walked each step through with each child and helped him establish how to do each item. Just getting used to the routine took a little time, but it has paid off and they are quick to obey. (Especially knowing they are paid for listening and obeying quickly! More on that later...) I suspect they also enjoy having a few minutes of one-on-one time with me each morning and evening as we check their charts together. "Check-in" time, I've been calling it.

What do you get when you combine a set of regular envelopes and colored popsicle sticks?

More sanity for Mom! And kids who are ready on time and eager to listen!

Funny Things They Say and Do

Where do you store favorite memories of your young family?

I know that when this brief time of raising children is past, I want to be able to look back as a family and laugh at the everyday things that happened in our family's life.

Mormon Mommy Blogs interview

I enjoyed listening to this interview on Everything Creative today
(an LDS 'Mormon Channel' program).

I like hearing how other women use the format of the blog to connect with the world,
give and receive encouragement, chronicle their family life and enjoy the creativity of it.

A Momma's Pick-Me-Up

Living a life with children and supporting my wonderful husband
in his career usually is a great experience.
But every once in a while,
I yearn for a bit of time with other women who understand.
